Podcasting, a portmanteau of Apple's "iPod" and "broadcasting", is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription.

Podcasts at GeoBrief.TV are free. You need a podcatcher to subscribe to the podcast and play the movies on your computer.

Do I need an iPod to view the podcasts?

No, you can view the podcasts on your computer, using a podcatcher. A podcatcher is a computer program that allows you to subscribe to a podcast, and will download new episodes as they become available.

Do I need special software to view the podcasts?

Yes, you need to have a "podcatcher" installed on your computer. We highly recommend iTunes by Apple. It is free. You can download iTunes at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

After installing iTunes, you can subscribe to a GeoBrief.TV podcast by just clicking on the "Subscribe to iTunes podcast" link. iTunes will subscribe you to the podcast and will start downloading the most recent episode immediately. After the download has finished, you can find the podcast under "Podcasts" or "Videos".

How do I subcribe to a GeoBrief.TV podcast?

May I publish my own film on GeoBrief.TV?

Yes, you may, if you are a researcher, teacher or student in the Dept. of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. You must also meet one of the following two conditions: You either own the rights to both the film and the music, or have obtained permission to publish them from the copyright holders.

I can't view live webcasts

If you can't access the live webcast at GeoBrief.TV, try the following:

  • Check in your firewall configuration if ports 554 and 1755 are open.
  • If you have Windows Media Payer version 10, launch Media Player, choose File -> Open URL..., and enter the following URL:

  • It you don't have Media Player 10, choose from the Start menu Run, and type mplayer2. In the media player, choose File -> Open..., and enter the following URL:
